Top Reasons To Consider Metal Roofing

For many industrial facilities and pre-fabricated buildings, corrugated roofing sheets are a vital structural component that is built to last, affordable to fit and provides a range of benefits to any building that uses them.

Exceptionally popular in countries such as New Zealand and Australia, metal roofing has a long history as a long-lasting alternative to shingles and roofing tiles.

One of the biggest reasons for this is that metal roofing can last several decades if taken care of, ensuring that its galvanised coating continues to protect the steel from rusting.

However, unlike other roofing solutions that can be vulnerable to exceptionally heavy weather or potential storm damage from projectiles, metal roofing is built to survive the harshest conditions with barely any damage whatsoever.

Alongside this, a metal roof is much easier to install, in no small part because corrugated sheets can be made to any size, meaning that a roof consists of far fewer individual parts that can simply be affixed to the roof.

This means that fewer professionals can fit the roof in less time than it would take for a traditional shingle-based roof to be fitted, which means that a metal roof can save a considerable amount of money from construction costs alone.

Metal roofing is also lightweight despite its strength, allowing it to be used on top of an existing roof, or for older structures with less structural integrity.

The metal production process is more energy efficient than the fabrication process for shingles, and because of the strength of the roofing material, can be a solid platform for fitting solar panels or can be painted a light colour to reflect solar heat away from the building.

As well as this, because metal is 100 per cent recyclable, the production can also be energy efficient, and unlike asphalt, another common material for roofing, it reflects heat away rather than absorbing it, reducing the heat island effect.
