Yorkshire Boasts Two Of UK’s Most Popular Places To Live

There could be an increase in the number of new houses being built in Yorkshire using fibre cement roofing sheets, after it was reported to boast two of the UK’s most popular places to live.

According to the Bank of Scotland’s Quality of Life Survey, Richmondshire took second place, while Hambleton came in fourth position, due to their beautiful scenery, good health statistics, and strong exam results, reported the Press and Journal.

Both Yorkshire locations have increased in popularity since 2017, when they achieved ninth and 28th position respectively.

The report found Orkney to be the most popular place in the UK to live, with many residents owing their good health to the remote Scottish isle. Indeed, 97 per cent reported good or fairly good health.

Bank of Scotland’s network director Ricky Diggins said: “Their more remote locations may not appeal to everyone, but with benefits including high employment, low crime rates, smaller class sizes and more affordable housing, people around the country will now be dreaming of a life spent on the isles.”

Also making up the UK’s top five locations to live were East Midlands’ Rutland and Eden in the north-west.

Another reason why Orkney ranked highest is that it is one of the most affordable places in Britain to live, boasting an average house price of just £173,349. This is 5.2 times a typical annual pre-tax income of someone living in Orkney, compared with the national average of 7.3.

This is also significantly lower than the typical property value for the whole of the UK, with the Land Registry’s recent House Price Index reporting this to be £230,630 in November 2018.
