UK Prepares For Another Cold Snap
Many areas of the UK are preparing for another cold snap, after weather experts have predicted snow, ice, and freezing temperatures later this week.
Britain has only just recovered from the sub-zero conditions experienced in December, when the mercury plummeted to -10C in several locations and as low as -17.3C in Braemar, Scotland, making it the coldest first two weeks in December for 12 years.
However, the Met Office has now revealed cold weather is making its return, with temperatures expected to dip below freezing once again this winter. Additionally, the south-east and north of England, as well as Scotland could see more signs of snow.
Although few people welcome freezing conditions, those who have homes built with corrugated roofing sheets will not have to worry about the chill as much as others.
This is because they are good thermal conductors, which means it can easily absorb heat from the sunlight. Even during the icy snap, the winter sun can be transferred into the roof, helping to warm up the rest of the house.
Another benefit of this roofing during winter is they prevent water build-up. When snow or rain falls, water is able to run down the roof and away from the rest of the building. Not only does this mean you can avoid problems of damaged and leaking roofs, but it is especially important in icy conditions.
If rain or snow falls on to a roof and is not able to drain away, it can turn to ice when temperatures plummet. This can cause considerable problems to the building, particularly when it begins to thaw.
