New Details Of Thorpe Park Leeds Development Unveiled

Further details, including a new image of the site, of the Thorpe Park Leeds development have been revealed at the MIPIM property conference.

Insider Media reported on the progress of the joint-venture development, which will feature 1.35 million sq ft of mixed-use accommodation once it’s completed.

Scarborough International Properties and Legal & General Capital are leading the project, which has been selected as an example of excellence in public/private sector partnering in the region.

The new image shows an artist’s impression of some of the housing development alongside the industrial and commercial development, separated by landscaped green space.

In December last year, the Department for Transport awarded £270 million in funding to Leeds for infrastructure projects. Thorpe Park Leeds is set to benefit from this boost in funding, with a new railway link planned to the development, as well as a park and ride scheme.

Full details of this new railway are also due to be unveiled at MIPIM, where a team from the development will be joining the Leeds City Region contingent.

Joint chief executive at Scarborough International Properties Simon Marshall commented: “We are in the process of a huge transformation, creating a unique business, shopping, leisure and living community, but the rail link is a major game changer.”

The East Leeds Orbital Road, which is currently under construction, is another key piece of infrastructure for the east of the city. When it’s completed, it will enable land to be utilised for the construction of up to 7,000 new homes.

Last month, AECOM stressed the importance of more housebuilding projects in the north of the UK if the government’s Northern Powerhouse strategy is to have the positive impact it hopes for.
