Three New Railway Stations Planned For Leeds
There’s likely to be strong demand for concrete reinforcement in Leeds with the announcement that the city intends to build three new railway stations, as well as carry out a host of other improvements to its transport network.
The City Council unveiled plans to construct a new parkway rail station to connect the city to Leeds Bradford Airport, as well as two other new railway stations at the White Rose Shopping Centre and Office Park, and at Thorpe Park.
According to the council, these additional stations will boost retail, employment, connectivity, housing growth and job creation within the city.
In total, £270 million is due to be spent on these projects, as well as a host of other improvements to the transport network in and around Leeds.
Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Judith Blake commented: “Providing a connection by rail to the airport has long been an ambition for the city and this plan will deliver it in a cost-effective way.”
Along with the significant updates to the city’s rail network, the council also announced major funding to improve bus services in Leeds.
Of the £270 million set aside for transport projects, £180 million will go towards renewing the city’s bus fleet, introducing new park and ride sites, expanding the existing park and ride scheme at Elland Road, and making improvements to bus stops and Leeds Bus Station.
The proposals have come following a significant consultation with residents, which saw more than 8,000 people providing their views about public transport in the city and how it could be improved.
