Construction To Start On Leeds Skelton Lake Services
Construction on the Leeds Skelton Lake service station, which will be located by junction 45 of the M1, can now begin after local planning officials gave the detailed plans the go ahead.
Insider Media reported that the project is now set to break ground, with the opening of the new services at the gateway to the Leeds Enterprise Zone scheduled for summer 2019.
Extra MSA Group will operate the services once they’re open and is investing the capital in the project to construct the facilities. Its plans will mean the site is home to a food-court style building, a business centre, a 100-room hotel and a fuel filling station.
Chief executive of the organisation Andrew Long told the news provider that they were pleased to get planning approval and are preparing to start work.
“We are committed to this £60 million investment in the region’s motorway network, which will improve road safety, create some 300 FTE permanent new jobs and provide an important strategic ‘gateway’ development to showcase Leeds,” he asserted.
While the buildings are important, the site also features green space and is designed to provide natural habitats where possible.
The Leeds Enterprise Zone is an area of 142 hectares of prime development land, which has the capacity to provide over 4.3 million sq ft of new employment floorspace. The likes of John Lewis, Amazon and FedEx already have a presence here.
