National Construction College Set To Host SkillBuild National Finals
The top construction trainees in the UK are set to battle it out at the Construction Industry Training Board’s SkillBuild National Finals being held between 16 to 18 November.
A CITB press release says that SkillBuild is the largest construction competition in the UK, and will see 50 finalists from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland demonstrate their specialist skills.
The finalists will have 18 hours to complete a project across the three days of the competition, which will be held at the National Construction College in Bircham Newton in Norfolk.
Remotely-delivered qualifying sessions were held throughout May and June this year, and around 100 colleges and training facilities supported the 250 competitors in the respective skills, which include bricklaying, carpentry, Foundation Skills: woodworking, furniture and cabinetmaking, joinery, painting and decorating, plastering, plastering and drywall systems, stonemasonry and wall and floor tiling.
Alongside the physical tasks, the entrants also had to demonstrate their understanding of employability aspects such as health and safety in an online assessment.
The competitors who have made it through to the final 50 and on to the SkillBuild 2021 National Finals will be announced in September.
Sarah Beale, CITB Chief Executive, said: “SkillBuild is a terrific opportunity for young talent in the construction industry to shine, and I wish all participants the very best of luck.
“We’re delighted to be hosting the National Finals at Bircham Newton, it’s great that even with so much uncertainty during the past year the competition continues to proceed, albeit with significant safety restrictions.”
Sponsors for SkillBuild include BAL, British Gypsum and Crown, with Michelmersh joining to support bricklaying competitions. The Stone Federation GB is also supporting the event.
